The telecommunications industry in Kenya has seen rapid growth in the recent past and now plays a critical role in the socio-economic development of the nation.

This growth and continuous evolution in modern technology has brought about a wide array of modern network terminal equipment with features that enable provision of value added services which make it possible to provide modern telecommunications facilities and services to the general public much easier and affordable.

Following the liberalization of the telecommunications industry, the number of registered private contractors and engineers has also grown to over 500.

In spite of this impressive growth, there is need to ensure the maintenance of telecommunications network integrity through the processes of equipment type approval, inspection and certification of all telecommunications wiring and terminal equipment installations.

To maintain uniformity in the industry, the Commission has reviewed the first edition of guidelines which were first published in 1996. The revision of the  guidelines has witnessed introduction of changes to align the the procedures with developments in the industry.
