World Conference on International Telecommunications 2012 (WCIT-12)
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is scheduled to hold the World Conference on International Telecommunications 2012 (WCIT-12) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 3rd to 14th December 2012.
WCIT-12 is a landmark conference that will review the current International Telecommunications Regulations (ITRs), which serve as the binding global treaty outlining the principles which govern the way international voice, data and video traffic is handled, and which lays the foundation for ongoing innovation and market growth.
The current ITRs were last negotiated in Melbourne, Australia, in 1988 and there is broad consensus that there is need to update them to reflect the dramatically different ICT landscape of the 21st Century.
As the designated government representative to the ITU, the Communications Commission of Kenya has been preparing for this meeting at the regional level under the aegis of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU). Our positions on the ITRs are therefore in consonance with the African Common Proposals (i.e. positions of Africa) as coordinated under the framework of ATU.
The Commission wishes to invite the ICT industry, consumers, the public and other interested parties to give input/comments on the African Common Proposals on the ITRs. The input/comments should be specific and within the confines of the African Common Proposals or any other issue pertinent to Kenya on the ITRs. Comments should be submitted via email@example.com
