Dr. Monica Kerretts-Makau - Director

Dr. Monicah Kerretts-Makau was appointed to the CCK Board on 21st February 2011 for a three-year term.

Dr. Monicah Kerretts-MakauDr. Kerretts-Makau joins the CCK board having been involved in the ICT sector in different capacities.  Dr. Kerrets-Makau is a Senior Lecturer at Strathmore Business School and University where she also holds the position of Deputy Director at iLabAfrica - a research centre at Strathmore University dedicated to the growth of ICT and mobile applications for business through innovation, incubation, and research.

Prior to joining Strathmore University, she had worked in the telecoms sector as the Policy Advisor to Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA) (2007-2009) where, among other things, she developed institutional arrangements on good governance and financial transparency in the use of the Universal Service Fund.  In 2007, she also consulted for the Ministry of Telecommunications, Southern Sudan, as an advisor to the Minister for Telecommunications and other government representatives largely on matters relating to the establishment of a regulatory regime for the telecoms sector. Between 2003 and 2005, she worked for KPMG Global as a Senior Business Analyst in Australia.  Dr. Kerretts had earlier worked as a Regional Knowledge Manager at KPMG East Africa and Manager –Institutional Banking, Standard Chartered Bank – Kenya- between 1999 and 2001.

She holds a doctoral degree in Policy and Regulation with specialization in the Telecom sector from the University of New South, Wales, Sydney, Australia, an MSc in Business and Information Technology from Salford University – Greater Manchester in the UK, and a BA in Communications (Major) Cum Laude Honors from Daystar University, Kenya.

Dr. Kerretts is well published in the ICT sector, her most recent being the report 'Benchmark Indicators for African National Telecom Regulatory Authority Websites' which was published as a chapter in the book 'Benchmarking National Telecom Regulatory Authority Websites' by Learning Initiatives for Networked Economies (LIRN.NET).
